Cytosine, scientifically known as 4-amino-2-carbonylpyrimidine, is an organic substance with a molecular formula of C4H5N3O. It is one of the main base components in nucleic acids (DNA and RNA). Cytosine can be synthesized from dithiouracil, and chloroacetic acid as raw materials. It is used as a drug intermediate.

Abbreviated as C. One of the pyrimidine bases in nucleic acids. It exists in DNA and RNA. In plant DNA, in addition to cytosine, there is a small amount of 5-methylcytosine. In the double helix of DNA, cytosine on one strand pairs with guanine on the other strand, forming three hydrogen bonds between molecules. The hydrogen bond between the complementary base pairs is one of the important forces for the stability of the DNA double helix structure. Cytosine nucleoside and cytosine nucleotide can both be used as drugs to increase white blood cells. It can be synthesized from dithiouracil, and chloroacetic acid as raw materials.
