Tween, also known as polyoxyethylene sorbitol anhydride fatty acid ester, is an additive of pharmaceutical. It is formed by condensation of residual hydroxyl groups in the molecules of dehydrated sorbitol fatty acid esters with ethylene oxide. According to the different R in the structural formula, there are Tween 20, Tween 40, tween 80 and tween 85. It is formed by condensation of residual hydroxyl group in Span molecule and ethylene oxide, which can be used as oil-in-water ointment matrix in pharmaceutical production.
