Chemical properties:
Colorless liquid.

The melting point is -85°C, the boiling point is 125.8°C, the relative density is 0.8645 (20°C), the refractive index is 1.4189, and the flash point is 35°C. Soluble in water and alcohol. There is ammonia smell.

Uses

It is used as the intermediate of drugs promethazine and mesanton. Also used as a stabilizer for acrylonitrile polymers.

1-Dimethylamino-2-propanol can be chlorinated with thionyl chloride to obtain 2-chloro-1-dimethylaminopropane hydrochloride.

Used in the pharmaceutical industry, also as a stabilizer for acrylonitrile polymers


Production method
1. The propylene oxide method is obtained by the reaction of propylene oxide with dimethylamine.
2. Chlorinated isopropanol method by the reaction of chlorinated isopropanol with dimethylamine.
