Epichlorohydrin Chemical Properties
Epichlorohydrin is a colorless oily liquid with a pungent odor such as ether and chloroform, flammable, volatile, toxic and anesthetic. The relative density is 1.1812, the melting point is -25.6 °C, and the boiling point is 117.9 °C. It is miscible with many organic solvents such as ethanol, propanol, ether, chloroform, acetone, trichloroethylene and carbon tetrachloride. It is easily soluble in benzene and slightly soluble in water. Because the molecular structure contains active chlorine atoms and epoxy groups, it is chemically active, and α-chloroglycerol is first generated during hydrolysis, and then glycerol is generated. It can undergo ring-opening reaction to generate propylene glycol and glycerol; react with alcohol and phenol to generate ether; react with amines to generate glycidylamine; react with carboxylic acid to generate ester; can self-polymerize; react with aldehyde (or ketone) ) reaction can generate dioxane.
